Morocco, which had experienced an annual economic growth of 4.3%, was obliged to exploit its renewable energy potential to ensure its economic growth and reduce its dependence on foreign countries (nearly 95% of these Requirements are imported). To meet its demands, Morocco has defined a new energy strategy where the development of renewable energies occupies a place of first choice.
The purpose of the “Geothermal potential evaluation in Northeast of Morocco” project was to identify geothermal potential areas based on hydrogeological, geochemical, geological and geophysical data as well as the classification of the different energy levels of this resource in the region.
The development of this project consider the following activities: (i) compilation and analysis of existing data; (ii) fieldwork on identified geothermal sources; (iii) laboratory analyzes; (iv) the interpretation of the results, and finally (v) a synthesis of all the work developed and recommendations for the future.
