CONTEXT
The United States is the world leader in the use of geothermal energy and in the generation of electric power through this resource. According to governmental energy database, in 2005, geothermal energy provided approximately 16 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) – 0.37% of the electricity consumed in the U.S. until January 10, 2008.
In 2006, the state of Nevada had in operation 16 power plants with an installed capacity of 296.81 MW that produced a total of 1,333 GWh. In 2007, Galeno 2 was commissioned, an expansion of Richard Burdett’s headquarters.
OBJECTIVES
The overall objective of this project is to assess the geothermal potential in 5 previously selected areas in Nevada, in order to prepare an auction participation and the respective suitable investment.
DESCRIPTION
The Geothermal evaluation in USA comprised the geothermal potential assessment of 5 sites in Nevada, that include land measures (temperature, depth, etc.) in order to support the legislation and financing preparation to an auction.
