CONTEXT

Overall, by the end of 2015, the electrification rate of households was about 27%, representing 231,389 households electrified out of 887,770 households located in rural areas. Moreover, the coverage rate of villages in rural areas is estimated at 20% with 2858 villages electrified out of 14359 villages throughout the territory.

 

 

OBJECTIVES

The main goal for this project was to support ASER in the development of the Senegalese rural electrification strategy, including project financing through clean development mechanisms

 

 

DESCRIPTION

The Rural Electrification Program for Senegal consists in establishing a baseline in terms of the rural populations’ access to sustainable electricity services, performing an evaluation on the potential contributions of the projects and programs already implemented and those in progress in relation to the objectives of the initiative, developing of a financial resource mobilization strategy and a prospectus to be presented at the round table conference of donors interested in funding the program and lastly assessing the alternatives generation for off-grid, isolated grids and transitional grids, including hybrid fossil fuel (diesel) and renewable (solar, hydro, biomass) solutions.
