Santo Antão Island Renewable Energy Land Zoning

CONTEXT

With the Government of Cape Verde setting the target of 50% penetration of renewable energy sources on the national grid, and focusing on the projects identified in the Renewable Energy Atlas of Cape Verde, Gesto supported the Government of Cape Verde in the development of an adequate legislative framework for the development of renewable energy projects in the country.

OBJECTIVES

The overall objective of the “Renewable Energy Land Zoning Development in Santo Antão island” project was to support the Government of Cape Verde (Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Energy) in the development of legislative framework for renewable energy sources.

DESCRIPTION

The Renewable Energy Land Zoning Development includes the development of legislative framework for renewables and diplomas. Also as part of this project, was the identification and detail study of over 60 renewable projects – wind, solar, MSW, geothermal and hydro – and the establishment of a right to reserve system of land use for renewable project development purposes (Zone of Renewable Energy Development – ZDERs), to be publish by Resolution of the Council of Ministers.
