PALESTINE, GESTO SUPPORTS THE PROMOTION OF SUSTAINABLE ENERGY

Last May Gesto has been awarded its first assignment in the Middle-Eastearn region, most precisely in Palestine.

The project consists on an assessment and upgrading of policies, and support for the implementation of measures to promote sustainable energy for Palestinian industries, being part of the MOUSTADAMA Programme: Promoting an Energy Sustainable Palestinian Industry. The MOUSTADAMA Programme is an initiative funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in partnership with the Ministry of National Economy in Palestine (MoNE) and in cooperation with Palestine Energy and Natural Resources Authority (PENRA).

Gesto’s assignment consists on performing a comprehensive overview of the required local technical grid rehabilitation or upgrade, within an identified area with presence of industrial activities and facilities, supported with financial feasibility studies showing the incidence of net metering or alternative similar metering schemes, with power storages integration, enforcement on the revenues, profits and loss of earning / loss of opportunities for the selected Distribution Company and Industry.

The kick-off meeting of the project was held remotely in early June, while an Inception Mission and field visit was conducted by Gesto experts last week. The mission included visits to several regional Distribution Companies and Industries in Ramallah, Nablus, Jerusalem and Hebron.

For this assignment Gesto will partner with renowned local consultants CEP – Center for Engineering and Planning.
