23 Feb MOZAMBIQUE, GESTO DEVELOPS PLANNING TOOL FOR MIREME

Gesto Energy Consulting in a joint venture with the MRC Group were selected by ENABEL to develop a Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Tool for the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy in Mozambique.
The project will comprehend the development, for MIREME, of a tool for energy sector planning, monitoring and evaluation, to be used across central and provincial levels.
This tool is intended to provide the necessary systematic and uniform information and tools on why, how, and by whom sector planning is undertaken, allowing MIREME to improve its methodology and approach in performing its quarterly, annual, and multiannual planning in alignment with the Government’s PES and PQG 2020-2024 objectives.
This project included within the Specific Agreement of 19 April 2017 between the Governments of Mozambique and of Belgium on “CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT OF THE MINISTRY OF MINERAL RESOURCES AND ENERGY AND ARENE MOZAMBIQUE” (MOZ 1403011), which covers a capacity strengthening project to improve the functioning and performance of the recently created Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME) and of the new multi-stakeholder regulator for the sector ARENE. The project is implemented by the Belgian Development Agency (Enabel) with a budget of 4 million Euro. The duration of the intervention is 5 years, with a General Objective of “The development of the energy sector is enhanced in order to power the socioeconomic development of the country and to contribute to the welfare of its people”. The Specific Objective is “The performance of MIREME and ARENE in advancing access to renewable electricity in rural areas is enhanced”.
