25 Aug Gesto Develops Rural Energy Strategy and Master Plan for Liberia
The Rural Energy Strategy and Master Plan for Liberia was officially launched by the Rural and Renewable Energy Agency of Liberia in Monrovia, Liberia, last August 18, 2016, with the presence of government officials, the donor community, consultants and relevant stakeholders.
It was the result of a project, successfully developed by Gesto Energia from August 2015 to May 2016 with funding from the European Union. This project envisioned the outlining of the strategy and planning of rural energy to achieve 35% of electrification of the country by 2030, which represents a total investment of US$935M. Liberia had in 2015 an electrification rate of around 2%.
On this occasion Gesto Energia also delivered two important tools that will serve as a base for communication and attraction of potential investors: a dedicated website (www.liberiaruralenergy.org) with all the information pertaining the project and a book with the major outputs.
