Asset Register in Sal Island

Asset Register in Sal Island

Cape Verde – Cidade dos Espargos (Sal Island)

Cape Verde’s Water and Energy Utility (ELECTRA)

This project was a part of the project “Energy Losses Reduction and Power Quality Improvement Program”, which consisted of 8 projects, each targeting a different area with the objective to reduce energy losses and to improve its quality.

This particular Project objective was to register and georeference the ELECTRA’s assets installed over the archipelago.

In this project, Gesto defined a strategy for the register of ELECTRA’s electricity assets in a geographical database also developed by Gesto – the Asset Manager Software. After the definition of the action plans, Gesto coordinated teams to register and characterize the required assets, such as lines, power plants and substations, among others, in the islands of Santiago, São Vicente and Sal.

The scope of works consisted on the registration and georeferencing of over 2.000km of power lines (aerial and subterranean), as well as the registration and georeferencing of  over 187.000 network assets of 40 different types, from which we enhance:

  • Buildings
  • Terrains
  • HV – MV Substations
  • MV – LV Substations
  • Alternators
  • Transformers
  • Electrical Power Plants
  • Desalination plants
  • Line Posts
  • LVGT
  • MT control boards
  • Distribution cabinets
  • Energy Meters
  • Water Meters
  • Protection Relays
  • Generator Set
  • AT Switching
  • Disconnectors
  • MT Cells
Example of ELECTRA’s georeferencing process

Description of the activities carried out under this project:

  • Design and development of field record charts and fiches for the collection and recording of technical data for each of the 40 types of assets
  • Supervision and coordination of all fieldwork (register and georeferencing)
  • Analysis and validation of data and its incorporation in a georeferenced database

  • ELECTRA’s assets number, dispersion and structure assessment
  • Definition of assets registration methodology and works planning
  • Coordination and supervision of registration field works
  • Field data validation and integration into the Assets Management System
