CONTEXT

The Government of Angola developed “The Angola Strategy for 2025” with the goal to assure an inclusive and sustainable growth of the country, through a balanced distribution of social and economic activities, aiming to promote human development in Angola. These objectives are only possible with the adequate development of the electric sector, in which long-term planning is of the utmost importance. Given this, it necessary to define and align this sector’s goals with the ones of the Angolan Strategy for 2025, defining priorities and key-projects.

OBJECTIVES

The “Angola Energy 2025 – Power Sector Long Term Vision” had two major objectives:  i) the Renewable Energy Atlas of Angola and ii) the Plan for the Electrical Sector until 2025.

DESCRIPTION

Renewable Energy Atlas: assessment of the wind, solar, biomass/MSW and hydro Renewable Energy Sources (RES); desk and site assessments in order to evaluate its potential and also elaborated the Atlas, which is available online at http://www.angolaenergia2025.com/.Evolution Plan for the Electrical Sector until 2025: identification of the projects and feasibility studies, aiming for their integration in the National Electrical Grid; a demand forecast, along with the generation and transmission lines reassessment (including generation from new RES identified in the project) and tentative redesign; new electrification scenarios and rural electrification alternatives.

Created a webSIG that allows the visualization and consultation of the mapping of the renewable potential and the identified projects, available at: http://mapviewer.angolaenergia2025.com/.
