NEPAL ELECTRIFICATION MASTER PLAN, FINAL STAGES OF ENDORSEMENT

Kathmandu, May 17, 2021

The Distribution System/Rural Electrification Master Plan of Nepal developed by Gesto from 2018 to 2020 is reaching the final stages of endorsement by the Client, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

During the past months of March and April 2021, the project management team from NEA conducted a successful roadshow through six of the seven Provincial Ministries of Physical Infrastructure Development Nepalese provinces for a final presentation of the project and formal handover of the corresponding Provincial Master Plan. The activity was done with remote but close assistance from Gesto, whose team was unable to attend the events due to the global pandemic travel restrictions.

The provinces covered thus far were Province 6 (Karnali), Province 7 (Sudurpashchim), Province 5 (Lumbini), Province 4 (Gandaki), Province 2 (Madhes) and Province 3 (Bagmati) and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Only missing now is Province 1 (Purbanchal), set to occur early this month of May, but later postponed without an estimated date due to the lockdown recently put in place because of the surge of new Covid-19 cases in the region.
