Gesto Italia – Concessions

Cinigiano concession is located in municipality of Cinigiano, Campagnatico, Civitella Paganico, Arcidosso e Scansano, Province of Grosseto. The geothermal lease has 141.2 km² located at less than 10 km north-west of Bagnore geothermal field within Mount Amiata geothermal area.

Wells drilled in the vicinity of Cinigiano area allowed to individualize a geothermal anomaly that seems to have the maximum intensity between Murci and Arcille ( > 125 ° C / km), slightly south of the concession area. Neogene sediments of the Ligurian Units, provides an effective cover to the underlying potential geothermal reservoir within the formations of Tuscan series.

Cinigiano area is crossed by the CROP 18B and CROP03, large reflection seismic lines performed by CNR in partnership with universities and private companies to study the Italian lithosphere. Geochemical and geophysical data already collected in southern Tuscany and near Bagnore geothermal field allowed to characterize by a high heat flow between 100-150 mW/m2 and a thermal gradient between 75-100 ºC/km.

A complete geophysical survey will be carry out to better define the geothermal anomaly and comprises a MT campaign, seismic profiles and slim holes that will identify the locations of the exploitation drilling sites.

Gesto Italia Mazzolla project is located in municipality of Volterra, Pomarance, Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, Radicondoli, Province of Pisa. The geothermal lease has 76.6 km² situated at less than 2 km north from the boundary of Larderello geothermal field.

Mazzola exploration lease is characterized by a positive geothermal anomaly with a thermal gradient between 90- 100 ºC/km and a heat flow around 150 mW/m2. The analysis of geothermal characteristics in the Larderello area result from the integration of geological and geophysical investigation and from the analysis of thermal wells (shallow gradients and deep wells).

A shallow gradient well performed by CNR in the south part of Mazzolla area gave a thermal gradient higher than 100ºC/km.

From the geological and geothermal works performed along the last decades it’s possible to infer the presence of two geothermal reservoirs:

• The shallow reservoir in Tuscan formations at depths between 1200 m and 1500 m;
• The deeper reservoir around the 3000 m within the metamorphic basement.

The exploration program is divided in two phases; the surface studies including geological and geophysical (MT and seismic) prospection which allows the selection of exploration wells in the next phase, the drilling phase.

Montalcino area is crossed by the CROP 18B, a major reflection seismic line performed by CNR in partnership with universities and private companies in the study of the Italian lithosphere. Despite this seismic line has been made to understand the deep structures, it contains important information about surface areas, increasing the knowledge of the geological structures in the concession area.

Several geological, geophysical and geochemical studies were performed in the last decades characterizing the southern Tuscany as an area with high geothermal anomalies. Montalcino area is characterized, in the central part, from positive geothermal anomaly with a geothermal gradient > 75 °C/km and a heat flow between 100-150mW/m2, but it must be investigated by surface exploration, prior to drilling of exploratory wells.

From the data collected in the geothermal exploration in this area it is expected a geothermal field with two main reservoirs similar to the ones found in the Bagnore:

A shallow reservoir in Tuscan Formations at depths between 1200 m and 1500 m with temperatures between 120-150 ºC;

A deeper reservoir around the 3000 m within the metamorphic basement with temperatures around 250ºC.

A complete geophysical survey will be carry out to better define the geothermal anomaly and comprises a MT campaign, seismic profiles complementing the CROP’s profiles and gradient wells that will define the best locations for drilling.
