CABO VERDE’S APPROVES REQUIREMENTS SYSTEM FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Cape Verde, 8 July 2019

The Cabo Verde Ministerial Council approved the diploma that establishes the National Labeling and Requirements System for Electrical Equipment (SNEREE) and establishes the minimum energy efficiency standards,  labels and information obligations to be provided to the final user of the product.

The approval of SNEREE takes place within the Energy Efficiency Project in Buildings and Appliances (PEEE), which, in turn, is part of the strategic axis for promoting energy efficiency of the National Energy Sustainability Program (PNSE). The Energy Efficiency Project in Cabo Verde’s Appliances Sector is part of a 3 year Long-Term Agreement (LTA) for the provision of consultancy services developed by Gesto.

The National System established by this diploma, which will be complemented by the Certification and Minimum Requirements Regulations for each type of equipment, establishes the obligation to affix labels to all energy-using appliances. This label shall include, among other information, the energy efficiency class of the equipment and shall be accompanied by an information sheet and the technical documentation of the equipment, which will enable the user to be informed about the energy consumption and other essential resources used, information about the yield and characteristics of the product, and thus to be able to choose energy efficient products.

SNEREE will initially focus on the 6 selected appliance categories: Refrigerators; Air conditioning; Televisions; Lamps; Electric Water Heater and Washing machines.

The SNEREE diploma was published as part of BO nº063 – I Série, which encompasses Decreto-Lei Nº 25/2019 that creates the National Energy Efficiency Standards and Labels System of Cabo Verde (Sistema Nacional de Etiquetagem e Requisitos dos Equipamentos Eléctricos), developed and proposed by Gesto Energia.
