03 Jan GESTO PROJECT IN SENEGAL ALLOWS TO REDUCE ELECTRIFICATION COSTS IN RURAL AREAS
Several months after Gesto finalized the pilot project for the coupon/voucher project in Senegal – an innovative scheme that aims the reduction of households´ connection costs to the electrical grid, the project follow up show the success of the project in the rural areas .
The ASER team that is managing the project is currently monitoring the results – some of the feedbacks:
The objective of this project was to test an innovative coupon schemes system that allow to reduce the access cost to electricity into the different regional electricity concessionaires in Senegal, by making the connection fees affordable to rural population.
Besides developing the conceptual scheme process, the project comprehended several field activities such as trainings in the different concessionaires – including on the coupon management software – a national campaign on selected areas / villages, etc.
