Senegal starts project to reduce the Electrification Costs for Rural Populations

Dakar, 17 July 2017

The kick-off meeting of the project “Design Coupon/Voucher Scheme for reducing the rural electricity connection fees”, was held in Dakar, with the presence of the consulting team from Gesto and ENDA, the Agence Sénégalaise d’Electrification Rurale high representatives and project major stakeholders such as the electricity concessionaires.

The objective of the project is to design a coupon / voucher scheme aiming a cost reduction on the connections of households to the electric grid, thus making the connection fees affordable to the poor rural population in Senegal.

A pilot program will be design and implemented in 5 villages, and the results of this pilot will allow to prepare a large scale coupon/voucher scheme for wider implementation in the all country.

The results are expected to be presented in January 2018.
