ANGOLA POWER SECTOR LONG TERM VISION

The Angola Power Sector Long Term Vision, was developed in 2014, to be the long-term strategy for Angola until 2025, with the goal of promoting human development and the well-being of the citizens, upholding a sustainable growth, ensuring a high rhythm of economic development and a well balanced development of the national territory.

PREFEASIBILITY STUDY FOR CSP POWER PLANT IN NAMIBIA

The Pre-feasibility study for the establishment of a Pre-commercial Concentrated Solar Power Plant in Namibia was developed in 2012 by an international consortium lead by Gesto, and aimed the selection of a limited number of potential sites for the establishment of a 5 to 50 MWe CSP plant and promotion of the development of a national energy cluster.

LIBERIA RURAL ENERGY STRATEGY AND MASTER PLAN

Between August 2015 and May 2016, Gesto developed the Rural Energy Strategy and Master Plan for Liberia. This project envisioned the outlining of the strategy and planning of rural energy to achieve 35% of electrification of the country by 2030, which represented a total investment of US$935M. In 2015 Liberia had an electrification rate of 2%.

MASTER PLAN CAPE VERDE 50% RENEWBALE

The Renewable Energy Master Plan of Cape Verde (2010-2011), was developed with the goal to achieve 50% renewable energy penetration by 2020.
This master plan included the mapping of renewable resources and identification of 2 GW of renewable projects, from which, 500 MW were competitive compared with the existing fuel oil generating units.

ATLAS AND NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR THE NEW RENEWABLES

The Angola Atlas and Atlas and National Strategy for the new Renewable Energies was developed in 2014 with the goal of promoting the diversification of the national energy matrix, as well as support the Program of Integrated Rural Development and Poverty Combat, and for the promotion of growth and employment, contributing to the combat of climate change.

POWER GENERATION SCENARIOS FOR MOZAMBIQUE

The Power Generation Scenarios for Mozambique was developed in 2014 with the aim to support the Ministry of Energy in the prioritisation of investments and aid in its development of the energy sector strategy for 2014–24. This high level strategic reflection analyses power generation scenarios of natural gas, renewables and regional grids.

MOZAMBIQUE RENEWABLE ENERGY ATLAS

Between 2011 and 2013, Gesto developed the Mozambique Renewable Energy Atlas for FUNAE, were all the renewable resources were studied, from resource evaluation to project identification and prioritization.

More than 23,000 MW of renewable projects were identified and studied, which result in more 7,900 MW of priority projects.

PAPERS & THESIS

WATER PROSPECTION IN VOLCANIC ISLANDS BY TDEM SURVEYING

F.J. Martínez-Moreno et al. relied on the extensive and detailed study developed by Gesto, in 2010, for the development of the “Renewable Energy Atlas of Cabo Verde”, to publish an article about the water prospection in volcanic islands by Time Domain Electromagnetic (TDEM) surveying.

HYDROPOWER PLANTS IN ARID REGIONS

The article Hydropower plants in arid regions: A dream came true in Santiago and São Vicente islands, developed by J. André et al. about the development of pumped storage schemes to storage renewable energy in arid areas relied on the study developed by Gesto, in 2011: “Cape Verde 50% Renewable“

BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE IN 100% RENEWABLE SYSTEMS

G.M. Glória et al. relied on the studies developed by Gesto for Brava Island in Cape Verde, to publish an article about the importance of Energy Storage Systems (ESSs), particularly Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), in the management of energy systems with high penetration of renewables.

GEOTHERMAL RESOURCE ASSESSMENT IN VOLCANIC ISLANDS

This article developed by R. Caranova et al. was based on Gesto’s studies in Cape Verde that evaluate the geothermal potential for power generation in Fogo and Santo Antão islands: geochemical analysis and geophysical tests (Magneto Telluric and Time-Domain Electro Magnetic).

MT AS TOOL FOR GEOTHERMAL EXPLORATION

Caranova et al.relied on the work developed since 2009 by Gesto in Tuscany, Italy for the development of geothermal projects, to present the results of geothermal exploration using Magneto Telluric and gravity data jointly used in order to provide geophysical characterization of the geothermal areas.

EXPLORATION OF ITALIAN GEOTHERMAL RESOURCES

In the European Geothermal Congress in 2013 in Pisa, Italy, G. Buonasorte et al. relied on the work developed by Gesto to present Magneto Telluric (MT) as a tool for the geophysical characterization of geothermal systems. The analysis was focused in particular on the quality of MT sounding data.
